What is included
What an end-of-lease treatment covers
Flea treatment
- All carpeted rooms, rugs and floor edges
- Areas where the pet slept and spent time
- Garage, verandah and garden areas the pet used, where needed
- A treatment that targets flea pupae in carpets, not just adult fleas
General pest treatment (if your agreement asks for it)

Timing
When to book it
- Remove furniture and belongings so every floor area can be treated.
- Complete the vacate clean, including vacuuming and steam cleaning carpets if your agreement requires it.
- Book the pest treatment once the clean is finished.
- Keep the property empty until floors are dry, usually a few hours.
- Send the receipt to your property manager before the final inspection.

Who is responsible for pest control in a Victorian rental?
Responsibility usually comes down to the cause:
- Pests that were there when you moved in, or that come from the building itself, such as gaps, drains or damp, are generally for the rental provider to fix.
- Pests caused by how the property is kept, or fleas from your own pet, are generally the renter’s responsibility.
- A professional cleaning or treatment term only applies in the ways your rental agreement and Victorian rules allow. Tenants Victoria notes, for example, that a professional cleaning term generally applies only where it is in your agreement and its conditions are met.

Vacuum everything
Vacuum every floor, including edges and under where furniture stood, then empty the vacuum outside.
Wash pet bedding
Wash or remove pet bedding on a hot cycle before the treatment.
Keep it clear
Remove boxes and items from the floor so every area can be treated.
Stay out until dry
Keep people and pets out until floors are dry, usually a few hours.

End of lease questions
Is end-of-lease pest control required by law in Victoria?
There is no general law that every renter must pay for pest control when moving out. Whether you need it depends on your rental agreement and the circumstances, such as whether pets caused fleas. Check your agreement and Consumer Affairs Victoria’s guidance if you are unsure.
When should I book end-of-lease pest control?
After the vacate clean and before the final inspection. Treating first and cleaning afterwards removes the product from the floors.
What does the receipt show?
The date of treatment, the service carried out, the address, and the technician’s licence number. That is what property managers usually ask for at the final inspection.
How long before I can go back inside?
Stay out of treated rooms until the floors are dry, usually a few hours. We confirm the exact re-entry time for the products used on the day.
Do you treat outside as well?
For flea treatments we treat the areas the pet used, which can include the garden, verandah and garage. Tell us where the pet spent time when you book.
What if fleas come back after I have moved out?
Flea pupae can survive in carpets for some time and hatch when they sense vibration. If the property manager reports activity soon after the treatment, call us and we will check it under the terms on your report.
